Communities
Community Assets
CEiS has delivered internationally recognised innovative services that build the capacity of communities and organisations in order that they become stronger and more sustainable. We have excellent case officer and project management capacity and experience, and our approach is to work in partnership to deliver sustainable results.
Our experience includes grant appraisal for national funding programmes with associated grant distribution.
Buildings and land
Since 2007 CEiS has been a lead partner operating with Highlands and Islands Enterprise to deliver the BIG Lottery Fund’s Growing Community Assets (GCA) programme. This programme supports community organisations to develop, and become more sustainable through ownership of capital assets including both land and buildings. Our involvement has enabled these organisations to secure funding in excess of £10 million. CEiS have a wealth of experience and technical knowledge and aim to provide a level of service to grant recipients that will result in successful and sustainable projects being delivered on the ground, achieving target outcomes and improving the lives of the people in their communities together with the associated local economic, social and environmental benefits.
We support applicants by delivering a range of capacity building measures both pre and post grant approval, including grant management.
Environment and people
Our development staff work with community groups to develop a range of community energy projects bringing environmental and financial benefits to Scottish communities. Our portfolio includes community wind-farm developments and we anticipate strong sustained growth in this sector in years to come. Our Community Engagement service commenced in the employability sector where we pioneered new methods of reaching people who were furthest from the labour market. These techniques have been adapted and extended into housing and tenancy services, community consultation and health engagement.
BIG Lottery Our Place Programme
Background
CEiS is now working with communities and local partners in Royston (Glasgow), Renfrew West and Greenock Town Centre & East to deliver BIG Lottery’s Our Place programme.
Our Place aims to help communities in each of these areas to come together and identify changes, improvements or barriers which they would like to see addressed in their area – this includes improvements to services, facilities or the environment.
Through the delivery of community-wide consultation events and activities, CEiS and local partners will support communities of Royston, Renfrew West and Greenock Town centre and East to develop a shared vision for their area. The community consultation will help to identify a package of projects and activities which will collectively meet the needs of each community.
Capacity Building
CEiS and local partners will provide a range of support options to help groups develop their project ideas and work together effectively to develop fundable Our Place applications which will achieve lasting change in their community.
Application Process
The application process for Our Place is in two stages:
Stage One – funding is available to develop a package of project ideas and activities which together will address the key issues identified in the community’s shared vision statement.
Stage One applications will be submitted to BIG Lottery by 1st November 2010 for appraisal, and subject to the decisions taken by The BIG Lottery Scotland Committee, development funding grants will be awarded at the end of January 2011.
Stage Two – Only those groups in receipt of approval at Stage One will be invited to submit a further Stage Two application for longer term investment. These applications will be submitted to BIG Lottery by 1st August 2011.
