SEWF 2018 – a 10-day extravaganza

Posted in: .

In 2018, we were privileged to once again host the Social Enterprise World Forum to mark the progress in the social enterprise sector in Scotland and globally, a decade on from hosting the first ever event in Edinburgh in 2008.

CEIS Events provided complete end-to-end event management services for this £850,000 10-day extravaganza. Event management included programme design for the main conference, all fringe events including 3 2-day symposiums, a policy forum, a week-long youth stream, 7 UK-wide social enterprise study tours, 2 evening receptions, a Grand Ceilidh and a civic reception.

Throughout the 10 days we welcomed 1,200+ delegates from 47 Countries, including social enterprise practitioners, leaders, investors, academics, media and government officials to an array of events across the UK. We were also honoured to have First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon; Deputy First Minister, John Swinney and Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government, Aileen Campbell participating in the event.

The main conference, held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, on 10-12th September offered a series of plenaries, workshops and participative sessions. While fringe events provided more in-depth platforms to explore areas such as global solutions to environmental and rural challenges; and the role academia has to play in progressing the social enterprise sector. SEWF 2018 also saw the largest SEWF policy forum to date, with 120+ policy, government and social enterprise representatives from 25 Countries.

Early arrivals had the option to participate in a series of social enterprise study tours in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin, London, Argyll, Inverness, Birmingham and Callander.

Those lucky enough to attend Callander, were treated to a special programme where the visit culminated in the town being crowned Scotland’s first ‘Social Enterprise Placeas part of SEUK’s ‘Social Enterprise Places’ programme. This was announced by SEUK ambassador, Chris Addison who celebrated this accolade with locals, including some cast from the tv series, Outlanders.

The event was hailed a success by delegates, partners and key stakeholders; even trending at number 7 in the UK on Twitter.
